On Sunday, February 23rd, JOMO JET will be hosting our second Dança Capoeira!, a free event all about the iconic Brazilian dance and martial art!
This time, we will be holding the event in Oizumi!
Sometimes called the “Brazil of Japan,” Oizumi is notable for having the number one highest percentage of foreign residents of any city in Japan, with a staggering 20% of the population being from other countries, especially Brazil and Peru. You can walk around much of the city without seeing or hearing anything but Portuguese, and there are delicious South American restaurants and supermarkets galore. If you’ve never been, it’s really a one-of-a-kind experience in Japan, and this event is a perfect excuse to check it out!
We are also excited to welcome back Wilson Lima, a university lecturer and capoeira instructor with nearly five decades of experience, to lead this event, which will include:
・A presentation on the unique history and cultural background of capoeira
・ An introductory capoeira lesson where you can try it for yourself
・Live music with traditional Brazilian instruments
You are also welcome to come out to dinner with us at an authentic local Brazilian restaurant after the event!
Experience the uniquely Brazilian side of Gunma Prefecture and try something new!
We hope to see you there!
