２月９日（２０時〜２１時）に、ウィズコロナの日常が生み出す様々な欲求不満を勉強心に昇華させる機会「第２５回e会話」を開催します！運命の英単語と出会い、真実の愛を言語学習の中で見つけましょう！

e-Kaiwa #25: Frantic-Mad With Evermore Unrest (2/9)

As we approach the third Valentine’s Day of the COVID-19 era, we are reminded of the unpleasant but undeniable reality that prolonged pandemics and perennial quarantine orders are not particularly conducive to a vibrant dating life. While it might seem like the best way to avoid the 3 Cs is to give up on 3D, we have an even better solution!

Go on a date with the Japanese language at the next e-Kaiwa #25 on Wednesday, February 9th from 20:00 to 21:00! Put down your body pillow and sublimate your frustrations into a passion for linguistic inquiry.

１７８７年に、イギリスの艦隊が追放された囚人を約７８０人乗せ、ポーツマスを出航しました。翌年１月２６日にシドニー・コーブに到着し、そこで流刑地の設立を開始しました。そして話を少し進めると、その地はオーストラリアになりました。

今日、イギリスによる上陸を記念して、１月２６日は「オーストラリア・デイ」という祝日となっています。南半球では真夏なので、オーストラリア人は友だちで集まってバーベキューをしたり、ビーチや公園でピクニックをしたりします。

赤道の反対側に住んでいる私たちが夏祭りを開くには季節外れですが、今度の水曜日、１月２６日開催の「第２４回e会話」では、正真正銘のオーストラリア人と話すことができますので、ぜひお越しください！

e-Kaiwa #24: Waltzing Matilda (1/26)

G’day cobbers! As ya know, 26 January is ‘Straya Day. We may be out Woop Woop, but it’s not like you have to go hunt witchetty grubs at the billabong for brekky. Throw on your sunnies and tracky daks, and take the ute out to the servo for some stubbies and duzzas. There’s heaps of room in the esky, so grab a slab from the bottle-o and some snags from Woolies for the barbie. In the arvo, you can defo put on triple j and play footy with your mates, but watch out for mozzies and make sure you’re back home in time for e-Kaiwa #24 from 20:00 to 21:00. You’ll be a true blue ripper legend if you don’t dog us, and it’ll be more fun than skulling goon with Bazza at a bush doof.

明けましておめでとうございます！令和４年の干支は寅ですね。

海外旅行はまだ難しいですが、いざ行けるようになると、外国語力が最強の味方です。

日本語しかわからないまま海外に行くのは虎の尾を踏むような行動です。旅行会社に計画を丸投げする張り子の虎でも、よく知らない国で文化的なトラバサミにかかるおそれがあります。虎の威を借る狐のように、翻訳アプリに任せっきりする人はなおさらです。旅人という名の羊質虎皮がヘタしたら、トラ箱に入れられるかもしれません。

残念ながら、一読して外国語をすぐに使いこなせるような虎の巻は実存しません。

しかし、生の英語の練習する機会を虎視眈々と狙っている方に良い知らせがあります！

e-Kaiwa #23: Shere Khan (1/15)

It’s already 2022, and that means it’s the year of the tiger.

If you moved to Japan without knowing much Japanese, you might have caught the tiger by the tail by accepting a job in a foreign country. You can continue riding the tiger by speaking loud English and blankly nodding when spoken to, but eventually the cat will be out of the bag when people notice you look like the cat that swallowed the canary. Trying to discipline yourself to study Japanese can be like herding cats, and it might even make you feel like a cat on a hot tin roof, but the alternative of pretending to understand just makes you a paper tiger.

But don’t worry; there’s more than one way to skin a cat! If you feel like the cat’s always got your tongue and you’re on the prowl for more Japanese practice, we have a great opportunity to earn your stripes!

On Wednesday, January 12th from 20:00–21:00, JOMO JET and GJEE will team up again to host e-Kaiwa #23. Groups of two English speakers and two Japanese speakers talk for 30 minutes in English and for 30 minutes in Japanese.

Since it’s online, even if it’s raining cats and dogs, you won’t have to look like something the cat dragged in to attend (nevertheless, no catcalling allowed).

Needless to say, it will be the cat’s pajamas.
