６月９日（水）オンライン和英言語交流「第１２回e会話」開催のお知らせ！(English below!)

e会話

梅雨といえば、にわか雨ですね。そして、にわか雨といえば、佐賀藩士・山本常朝が口述した武士道論傑作「葉隠」…ですね。その中「にわか雨の戒め」を話します：

一、大雨の箴と云ふ事あり。
途中にて俄雨にあひて、
濡れじとて道を急ぎ走り、
軒下などを通りても、
濡るゝ事は替らざる也。
初めより思ひはまりて濡るゝ時、
心に苦しみなく濡るゝ事は同じ。
これ萬づにわたる心得也。

つまり、いきなり雨が降ってきた時、慌てて雨を無理に避けようとしても、濡れてしまうことは変わりません。しかし、最初から覚悟して濡れてしまうことを受け入れれば、濡れてもその苦しみを省くことができます。

どうせ濡れちゃうから焦らなくたっていいんじゃないか、ということですね。

最後に「これ萬づにわたる心得也」と述べるように、
外国語の勉強もその「萬づ」に入るのではと思います。

例えば、英語に挑戦しているなら、いくら気をつけても時には間違いをすることがあります。怖くて何もしゃべらないことにしても、それが成功だと考えかねます。一方、最初からプライドを捨てて、英語に飛び込んでみたら、たまに間違ったことを言ってしまうのは変わりませんが、実際に英語を使っているようになります。

６月９日の「第１２回e会話」では、英語の「にわか雨」を恐れず、潔う話れるやうになりませう！

地域の外国人と日本人と一緒に英語と日本語でフリートークをし、語学力を高めながら様々な友だちを作りましょう！

1．参加にあたって未成年の方は保護者の同意が必要です。未成年の方が参加された場合は、保護者の同意が得られているものとみなします。また、高校以下の生徒及び児童は参加不可となります。

2. 「Discord」アプリは13歳未満の利用が禁じられています。

3. マイク、カメラを使用できるパソコンで、「Discord」アプリが使える端末が必要です。

4. Discordアプリは事前にインストールをお願いします。すでにインストールしている方は、最新版に更新してください。

e-Kaiwa #12: A Miracle’s Worth (6/9)

June means the rainy season in Japan, and rainy season means getting caught in the rain. And what comes to mind when you think of getting caught in the rain? That’s right! Seventeenth-century samurai-philosopher Yamamoto Tsunetomo’s seminal work on bushido, In the Shadow of the Leaves:

“There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you will still get the same soaking. This understanding extends to all things.”

Language-learning is the same. We may be so afraid of the embarrassment of making a mistake that we try to avoid speaking at all, but living in Japan, there are inevitably going to be times when we have to use Japanese. Rather than trying to flee from these sudden showers of nihongo, we can discard our pride and resolve from the beginning to accept the mistakes that may come.

And what better place to practice your Japanese all while avoiding going outside into an actual rainstorm than e-Kaiwa #12 on June 9th!

JOMO JET and GJEE will team up again to host this super simple online language exchange event. Groups of two English speakers and two Japanese speakers talk for 30 minutes in English and for 30 minutes in Japanese. Anyone can join regardless of language level, so we hope to see you there!

Individuals under 18 years of age who register for this event are understood to have obtained the permission of their parent or legal guardian. Furthermore, students enrolled in elementary, junior high, or high school may not attend.

3. In order to participate in this event, a computer with a microphone and camera and capable of running Discord is required.
